Meet the Band

Colin is the band’s caller and has been with Haste to the Wedding for over eleven years. He guides all levels of dancers through each step of the many easy sets and is also the band’s singer. He plays guitar and banjo and is well known in music sessions around Co. Antrim for his lively interpretation of Irish and Scottish folk songs and ballads. He has been playing folk music in various groups and guises for more years than he cares to admit.

21d8f5f0Pete is the Haste to the Wedding manager and founder of the band which took life in 2000. He plays banjo, bouzouki, mandolin and fiddle, but his main instrument is the guitar played in DADGAD tuning which provides the unique driving rhythm for the lively tune sets performed by the band. Starting with contemporary music he ‘progressed’ onto traditional music twenty five years ago in the local session scene and has never looked back!

Ian is the band’s accordionist and has been playing music since childhood. He is one of the original Haste to the Wedding line-up, but took a sabbatical of several years during which he went to Newcastle University to study traditional music. He has played in a number of bands over the years and is very well known in the local session music scene, especially for his passionate and animated playing style.

Ciaran is the Haste to the Wedding fiddler and has been playing traditional music for over thirty years. In 1990 he reached the finals of the prestigious BBC Radio 2 Young Tradition Award and for years he has played at ceilidhs and set dances while he was supposed to be studying and working in England! In 2011 he was recipient of the Slow Air title at the All Ireland Fleadh Cheoil which gives a little indication of his prodigious talent.

James is percussionist and completes the band’s line-up. With his bass and snare drum he maintains a steady back beat and, on occasions, he’s even been known to play the cajon and the bodhran.
